Like all our new starters, we took some time getting to know Adam…

How have you found it at Sort Group so far?

So far, my time with Sort Group has been great. The team has been very welcoming, and everyone has been eager to chat and assist me when needed.

What attracted you to joining our team?

I found Sort very open and enthusiastic about the company’s vision and individual growth. The training included, the welcoming environment and the chance to contribute to important projects made Sort a clear choice.

What did you do before joining Sort?

Before joining Sort, I previously worked at a software development startup for a few months, after finishing my MSc in Advanced Computer Science at the University of Sheffield.

Tell us something a few people know about you...

I’ve seen every Wes Anderson film; I had a pet tortoise when I was a kid, and I enjoy pub quizzing with my friends.

What’s your favourite movie and why?

Wow, that’s a tricky question! Probably between Interstellar and Back to the Future.

Describe your dream day off...

My dream day off would involve sleeping in, hanging out with friends, and eating some great food (probably burritos!).

How would your friends and family describe you?

They would describe me as funny, easy-going and inquisitive.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

I visited Bologna this summer with some friends and had an amazing time, so my first thought would be Italy! That said, I am laid back, and I would move anywhere with a good climate, culture and cuisine. I would love to visit Australia and New Zealand in the future so Italy isn’t set in stone.

What was your favourite subject in school and why?

My favourite subject was Computing. Having enjoyed Maths, learning about algorithms, programming basics and computer hardware was exciting.

What did you want to be when you were younger?

It changed daily but mostly I wanted to be an Astronaut or a Fireman!

What would you say to someone looking to start a career in tech?

Learn the basics of software development and then find an area you are interested in. Understanding the real-world application of the technologies you encounter is helpful in improving your knowledge and skills. Doing an internship or a placement is also a great way to put concepts into practice and learn professional programming standards.
