SortRefer was formally launched in 2009 by a number of ex-brokers who were frustrated at the lack of reliable Conveyancing sources. Fast-forward to today, we’ve expanded and have added lots of exciting things along the way. Read all about our journey and our people below ...
The idea of SortRefer was born. A Group of four ex-mortgage brokers; including CEO Kevin Tunnicliffe, Business Manager Andy Sadler and Former Telephone Account Manager, Richard Evans) started fleshing out the details and testing.
SortRefer officially launched without a website. The first BDM joined the company. The initial sale and purchase quotes were sent out on excel spreadsheets.
The SortRefer website was officially launched to the marketplace. Remortgage and Fixed Price Remortgage were added to our product list.
In January our second BDM joined. We added Surveys/Valuations to our list of products.
Updated and launched our newer version of the website.
Our third BDM joined. We added Commercial Property Conveyancing and Commercial Surveys. We were proud to receive our first award commendation for ‘Best Conveyancing/Legal Search’, which was voted for by our customers.
We were proud Winners of ‘Best Conveyancing/Legal Search Provider’ and ‘Best Conveyancing Service – Panel Manager’ at the Mortgage Strategy Awards.
An industry first! The SortRefer App was launched. We received a ‘Highly Commended’ award for ‘Best Conveyancing/Legal Search Service’ and ‘Most Innovative use of Technology’ at the Financial Reporter Awards.
Property Butler was launched – our Estate Agency arm. We won ‘Best Technology Provider’ at the Financial Reporter Awards. We launched Fee Guard – a Buyer Protection policy that customers could add on for all purchase cases at a small cost.
In March we expanded and moved to new offices just outside of Derby City Centre. Sort Legal was formed – our in-house law firm. Our Estate Agency arm, Property Butler re-branded to Agent Butler. Our Sales structure was amended, and the introduction of a two-tier support approach was launched.
2018 saw the launch of our new website and our brand refresh. We were delighted to get to finalist stage at three industry awards and at two customer service-based award ceremonies. We scooped first place at the Your Mortgage Awards for ‘Best Provider of Legal Services and won ‘Mortgage Conveyancer of the year’ at the Moneyage Mortgage Awards.
In 2019 we were delighted to win again at the Moneyage Mortgage Awards. Our Senior Relationship Executive, Kate Hedges also won ‘Rising Star’ at the Women’s Recognition Awards. We celebrated our 10th anniversary since our launch by celebrating with Champagne and Cake. Our proposition was expanded with the addition of Equity Release Conveyancing.
Despite being a tough year of Covid restrictions, we were over the moon to be crowned winner of ‘Best Legal Services’ at the Financial Reporter Awards and received a virtual celebration. We also received a ‘Commended’ for ‘Best Conveyancing/Legal Search Service’. Our Estate Agency sister company re-branded and launched as ‘Sort Move’ to remain consistent with our other brands.
This year was tough but also rewarding. As we saw the industry boom with the Stamp Duty holiday, we were also pleased to be again crowned winner of the ‘Best Conveyancing/Legal Search Service’. We expanded our portfolio of products with the addition of Independent Legal Advice and updated our Specialist Property Reports product. We were delighted to end the year smashing all of our best ever business targets
We started off the year by adding another product to our proposition, Standalone Lease Extensions. We celebrated our 13th year of business in April with a ‘Lucky for some’ incentive, where we gave away 13 prizes. Our events calendar is the busiest it’s ever been, with our Sales team down to attend 23 events. Watch this space.
