Tom Hale has joined the SortRefer team and will work in the South West Region, alongside Scott Howard, Telephone Business Development Manager and Natasha Marriott, Customer Service Adviser. This week we caught up with Tom, getting to know him personally. Check out our Q&A below!
How are you finding your feet at SortRefer? Have you settled in well?
I love it!
The People are friendly and helpful, and I'm looking forward to being taken out for a burger by Scott and Natasha. I believe it's the best burger Derby has to offer!!
How do you like to start your day?
I'd love to say 10 minutes of meditation, followed by 20 minutes of exercise, but in reality, 2 cups of coffee are my priority when I wake.
What are you most looking forward to now you've joined SortRefer?
Meeting the people and getting out and about and helping our customers.
What are you passionate about?
As cheesy as it is, I'm passionate about being the best I can be. My focus is on becoming healthier, eating better, and exercising more.
Tell us about your previous experience; what did you do before SortRefer?
I've worked in Financial Services for over two decades. The majority of this was spent in senior commercial and leadership positions. More recently and following redundancy in late 2020, I've worked as a Mortgage Broker and hope to use this and my previous experiences to best support my customers in my new role.
Who's your favourite musical artist?
I'd have to say Taylor Swift or my daughter wouldn't be thrilled with me.
What's a work-related accomplishment that you're proud of?
Not so much one accomplishment, but I like to think I put people first in my approach to work and when making decisions. I believe relationships are crucial to enjoying and succeeding in your career and, more broadly, life.
What advice would you give your teenage self?
Say yes, and don't fear the consequences. They're rarely as bad as the irrational mind would have you believe.
Tell us something few know about you.
This is a bit of a struggle. I'm high on disclosure; ask me, and I'll probably tell you!
What's your go-to productivity trick?
Use the delete button!
Only kidding; know your strengths and the strengths of those around you. Play to these, and you will enjoy your work a lot more and consequently be more purposeful, successful, and fulfilled by what you do.
What's the most significant misconception people have about your position?
It's often the unseen activity that makes the difference. Using a sporting analogy, the work off the ball often makes a difference to the team's performance.
