You are about to read on one of the greatest stories ever written. Perhaps not entirely The Great Gatsby, or a Lord Of The Rings, but our story is interesting. SortRefer has developed into an incredible company over the past twelve years; we are all enormously proud to be a part of it.

So, let us get into it, it all started back in 2007

In 2007/2008 the idea of SortRefer was born! And created by a group of four ex-mortgage brokers; including CEO Kevin Tunnicliffe, Business manager Andy Sadler and Telephone manager, Richard Evans started fleshing out the details and running tested, putting SortRefer together.

2009

SortRefer was now ready to launch officially, this was without a website, without social media, times were a little different back then. The initial sale and purchase quotes were all sent out on excel spreadsheets, wow how times have changed. 2009 also saw the first BDM also join the company.

2010

We officially launched the SortRefer website into the marketplace this year and new products soon, products such as Fixed price Remortgage were now in place.

2011/2012

In January 2011, the second BDM joined the famous five, and We added more products to the list. Surveys and valuations were now accessible, and the business began to come together. We also renovated the website and added a fresher and more contemporary style.

2013

Along came another BDM, making this now 3, BDM’s. Property conveyancing and commercial Surveys also made it onto the product list. Making SortRefer shine and stand out from the crowd.

2014

SortRefer started to get the acknowledgement it truly deserved, this year SortRefer was presented Winner of Best Conveyancing/legal search provider at the Moneyfacts Awards.

The company was also placed First for the best conveyancing service – Panel manager award at the Mortgage strategy awards ceremony.

2015

2015 was a big year for SortRefer, and we became an INDUSTRY FIRST.

Our app was introduced and received the highly commended award at the Moneyfacts Awards. This same year we also received The Most innovative use of technology at award from the Financial Report ceremony.

2016/2017

We launched Property Butler in 2016, our first Estate agency arm, now better know at Sort Move. More awards come flooding in such as Best Technology provider at the Financial Reporter Awards. New products and ideas also came to life, these being Fee Guard, now better now as our Buyers Protection Policy that customers can add on for all purchase cases at a small cost.

In March 2017 we expanded and moved into our shiny new offices just outside of Derby City Centre. We also formed our in-house Legal firm, now known as Sort Legal. We amended our sales structure to include regional account managers and telephone account managers for each region.

2018

This year saw the launch of our brand-new website with a whole new brand.

We were delighting in becoming finalists at three industry awards and two customer-service based award ceremonies. We also managed to bag the first place at the mortgage awards for ‘best provider of legal services’ exceptional!

2019

2019 saw us celebrate our 10th anniversary; we could not believe how far we had come. Our big birthday celebrations took place on the 23rd of April 2019 (Write this down for next year!) we took this time to look back at how much we had grown and developed.

2020

At the start of 2020, nobody knew how the year would pan out, and although we navigated our way through a pandemic, we had to change the way we worked. Our teams adapted to remote working, zoom and teams calls, and we were able to give our usual, excellent customer service throughout. Although the pandemic bought its negatives, it also bought positives for the housing industry, bringing about a stamp duty holiday and boosting the transactional conveyancing cases. 2020 also bought about some challenges with capacity issues across the whole industry. Overall, 2020 was a rollercoaster, but we are pleased to have had such a successful year, even achieving record business levels.

2021

As we move out of 2020, we are still adapting to a pandemic world, but are pleased to say the Housing Industry is remaining open for business. The Stamp Duty holiday will come to an end in March, and we will discover how the industry will adapt for the rest of the year. We know that whatever happens, 2021 will be an exciting year for SortRefer.
