We have been super busy raising money for our three charities we are supporting this year; British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research UK and Alex’s Wish. Fantastic efforts from the team in raising an amazing £4,100 so far this year.
1st September TrekFest 2018 for Cancer Research UK and BHF
After 7 hours of walking in the peaks, five members of the team completed a 25k Trekfest in the beautiful peak district. The event village was well equipped with an inflatable pub, hot food and even a massage at the finishing line. A whopping £1783.89 has been raised; £1179.50 to BHF and £604.39 to Cancer Research UK. On the same day Andy our Business Manager and his wife Liz took part in the 50km Trekfest for a charity close to their hearts; Muscular Society. They have raised a fantastic £600 taking on the epic challenge and were still smiling after walking for 12.5 hours!
“I wanted to get involved in Trekfest to support a fantastic charity alongside some of my colleagues. After signing up in January 2018, I naively thought it wouldn’t be too tough, but I was wrong. Almost 7 hours of trekking up and down the hilly peak district in the blistering heat was very hard, but it was worth it to help raise funds for Cancer Research UK.” – Emma Brown, Head of Marketing
“I decided to sign up to Trekfest because I wanted to challenge myself and raise money for a great cause in doing so. It was very tough and there was a lot of aches and pains afterwards, but it was a fantastic day and an incredible achievement and I am very proud of all our team for completing it and raising lots of money for two great causes – British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research UK.” - Carolyn Mars, Operations Executive
21st September Alex’s Wish Golf Day
Alex’s Wish hosted their 8th annual Golf Day on the 21st September, seven of us joined them at Rothley Park Golf Course to help raise money and find a cure for Duchenne. Sadly, the team didn’t win but we had a great time eating curry and raising £360 For Alex’s Wish.
“Alex’s Wish Golf day was fantastic. Although raining when we arrived, the sun soon came out and it remained dry for the round of golf. A total of over £8,000 was raised on the day which is tremendous.” - Richard Evans, Telephone Account Manager South East
The event raised a fabulous £8,697.78 in total and we were happy to be a part of its success.
10th-13th October, Mortgage Advice Bureau- La Manga Bike Ride for Macmillan Cancer Support #MABlamanga
A three-day bike ride in La Manga, Southern Spain riding for almost 2000 miles with the aim of raising £22,500. Kev our CEO took part along with a team of 30 riders from Mortgage Advice Bureau to raise as much money as possible for Macmillan Cancer Support- a charity close to Kevin’s heart.
Seven years ago Kev lost his father in law to cancer and in May 2013 his father was diagnosed with bladder cancer. That same year Kev was personally diagnosed with Stage IV throat cancer after months of being told by his GP that he had tonsillitis.
“I had a fantastically loving wife, a wonderful family & great friends who all helped me through these really tough times, and amongst it all was a really great man- Dad. Not just a brilliant father but also one of my closest friends.” - Kev Tunnicliffe
Day one of the La Manga challenge consisted of 53 miles of cycling, which turned into 70 miles and over 4,000 feet of climb. After completing day one, day two consisted of another 50m miles with over 5,000 feet to climb. After completing the whole challenge, Kev commented to the SortRefer team “Ride completed guys. It’s been incredibly hard at times and we’ve done over 300km (sounds much more impressive than 170 miles!!) The most important thing is that we should raise over £25,000 for Macmillan and as usual, I’m a bit emotional at the minute! Thanks for all of your support.”
We are incredibly proud of Kev and the MAB team for raising an astonishing amount and completing such a tough challenge. You can still donate to help all the riders meet their team target here https://www.justgiving.com/companyteams/mabcyclechallenge2018
