Interview with ex mortgage broker, Kat
Kat was an award winning mortgage broker before joining SortRefer in 2017. Now she works as a regional account manager in the South East of England.
What were the highs and lows of working as a mortgage broker?
The highs were most definitely helping people get onto the property ladder and stop renting. It’s such a huge commitment buying a property and I enjoyed being part of that process – it’s rewarding and it’s a job where you really do make a difference in a huge way. The lows were the long hours. I’d be out meeting lots of clients and then have to spend a lot of time completing admin work.
What frustrations did you experience?
On a personal level it was frustrating trying to maintain a work life balance, the more you worked the more you earnt, the better service you gave the more clients you had. I had a lot of clients and worked very long hours.
What were your career highlights?
The two awards I won at the firm I previously worked for. The first one was the ultimate mortgage adviser of the year and the second was highest submissions against the target. I also got plenty of referrals from clients so kept a large bank of clients.
How and why did you join SortRefer?
I believed in the product and used SortRefer when I was a mortgage adviser. I was happy with the results, the way the system worked and the support I got from the team. Joining SortRefer saw lots of new challenges, like selling B2B instead of B2C, it was a great next step in my career. Now I’m over the moon to be at SortRefer.
How has industry knowledge/time as a Mortgage Adviser helped you in your role at SortRefer?
I used SortRefer in past so I know how it works and the benefits of using the system. I’ve found that it’s a really easy sell.
Thinking back to your mortgage adviser days, If you didn’t have SortRefer, how would work be any different?
I’d work even longer hours as I’d have to spend time researching individual conveyancers/other options and not have a customer service team who are dedicated to helping me succeed.
As a past adviser, what would you say is one of the top USPs of SortRefer?
The referral fees and the dedicated support. You can earn an additional income stream by just spending a few more minutes at each appointment. Instructing the conveyancing and using SortRefer meant I had a full overview of the whole transaction from start to finish. The dedicated support teams we have are priceless!
What would you say are the three key elements of SortRefer?
The support, control over cases and the ability to save time.
