Michal Zawadzki joins us as a Software Developer for Sort Group. We spent 10 minutes learning more about Michal; from his career to what he likes to do in his spare time.
A big welcome to Sort Group! We hope you’re settling in well.
How have you found it at Sort Group so far?
I enjoy every second of my work. I joined the Devs team, and I’ve never worked with such a great team before. They welcomed me with open arms and gave me the support I needed, especially since this is my first role in tech.
What made you want to join our Sort team?
Initially, I was looking for a front-end development role since I had more experience in that area. But when the recruiter called me and told me about Sort and how big and complex it is, I wanted to join the team. After my initial interview with Gerard, I knew this was the best place for a junior developer. Plus, the office being less than a mile from my home is a big bonus!
What did you do before joining Sort?
Although becoming a software engineer has always been my goal, I’m a career changer. Before Sort, I ran my own tailing business and also worked as a lorry driver for a few years. I’m truly thankful Sort is open to developers from diverse backgrounds and gives chances to career changers.
Tell us something a few people know about you.
I love long, solitary mountain bike rides, with the Peak District being my first destination. I also write a blog where I document my career transition at Coding Crossroads
If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?
I think it would be the ability to slow down time, so the moments I really enjoy could last longer. Time manipulation would also be really useful since I am a father of two wonderful children, Martina (5) and Jacob (3). We spend a lot of time together, and I wish I could have more time to learn and develop myself in the evenings.
Describe your dream home.
My dream home is a place where each family member feels safe, understood, and gets all the love and support they need. It’s where parents and kids are best friends, and everyone is welcomed.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
I would probably travel across the world, staying a few years in each place. I’d love to visit North America and Asia. At some point, I’d move back to Krakow where my family lives.
What would you say to someone looking to start a career in tech?
I would highly encourage them to go for it. The job market is really tough now, but there are still great opportunities to find a first role. It’s so worth it. Since joining Sort, I’ve never looked back and I enjoy every moment of it.
Michal works in Sort Group's inhouse development team, working on all of our bespoke built technology.
