Malcolm joins us as Business Development Manager for Scotland and the North of England. We spent 10 minutes learning more about Malcolm; from his career to what he likes to do in his spare time.
A big welcome to SortRefer, Malcolm! We hope you’re settling in well. Could you please start by telling us a little bit about yourself?
I have been involved in financial services for over 20 years now, gaining valuable experience working in a variety of roles. Most recently, Business Development within the Prime and Specialist intermediary sectors.
I live on the Northeast coast with my family, comprising my wife, son and 10-year-old Malamute.
We enjoy spending time together as a family, either walking the dog in the nice fresh air, doing retail therapy or cosying on the sofa watching an epic blockbuster or three.
What attracted you to SortRefer?
I wanted a new challenge. I have worked in every aspect of the house buying process – from my early days offering advice as a broker/IFA, working for a Network and most recently as a Business Development Manager.
I see the market developing from a technological point of view and how this will change the house-buying process. SortRefer are looking to embrace technology to enhance and enable this further, that aligned with its people was a definite attraction.
Give us three reasons why a Mortgage Broker should use SortRefer:

- Access a panel of suppliers and a portfolio of products to enhance the service they provide to their clients.

What are your professional goals for the year ahead?
To onboard and educate as many new brokers as possible, and in turn, gain market share for SortRefer in my given territory. To further upskill myself and understand this sector better to be a more rounded professional.
How do you like to keep busy in your spare time?
Spending time with my family, as previously mentioned. I enjoy all types of sports and support my son in his sporting pursuits. I do like looking after my garden and am currently looking at various projects for next summer.
Who inspires you and why?
My late Dad. My parents gave me the best upbringing and ultimately instilled Integrity as a core value, which hopefully embodies my everyday behaviours.

Dog person.

I used to run a Boot camp.
What advice would you give to someone looking to start a career in the property industry?
Do your research. obtain as many industry-related qualifications as possible. Maintain a high work ethic, be resilient and never give up.
