Over the past 6 years, Neil has been instrumental in building strong relationships with our broker partners, consistently going above and beyond to support their needs and drive business growth. His dedication and personable approach have made a lasting impact—not just on the brokers he works with, but also across the wider team.
To celebrate his journey, we caught up with Neil to look back on his time at SortRefer...
How has your role with the company evolved since you started in 2019?
The role itself hasn’t changed massively, but my personal situation has meant a lot more time on the road and in hotels! I’ve actually got mates in hotel receptions all over the land now!
What’s one thing you’ve learned about Business Development that you didn’t expect when you started?
I’ve worked in Business Development for over 15 years now, but I can honestly say that I’ve learned so much since being at Sort. Our sales team is full of experience, wisdom and industry knowledge. It means I’ve been able to pick up so many new ideas and techniques over the last 6 years.
Showing off your Sales pitch here, but how would you describe SortRefer to a new potential client?
I’ve been an adviser for a number of years, and I know what’s important to a busy broker. I always emphasise the support we offer, should things get difficult, but I think the ease of use, and how quickly you can generate a quote are key.
How do you measure success in your role beyond the numbers?
Truthfully, the numbers are always the most important, but I think it’s fair to say that when I’m called by someone who’s been passed my number, it means a huge amount.
What’s been your favourite memory or funny moment from the past 6 years?
There have been so many memorable moments, and a lot of laughs. The vast majority I can’t mention here, let’s just say I’ve enjoyed our more recent company get-togethers.
If you had to trade jobs with someone at SortRefer / Sort Group for a day, who would it be and why?
Kev [the CEO], defo Kev, maybe Keith [the MD]. I’d definitely shake things up! Maybe force Jordan [Tunnicliffe] to dress up as a donkey on Fridays!
What excites you most about the future – either for your role or for the SortRefer?
Sort Group is getting bigger, and some of the changes and additions to the group are really exciting. The future looks good!
If you could sum up your 6 years here in just 3 words, what would they be?
Sound, Boss…. Home!
