This week we are celebrating Emma Brown's 7th Anniversary!
Emma Brown, Head of Marketing, has pretty much been with us from day one. As part of the celebration, we caught up with Emma to discuss how the Marketing team has developed, memories from years gone by and what she believes the future holds for Sort Group.
Check out our Q&A below.
You joined SortRefer in 2015. Can you remember your first day?
I remember it like it was yesterday. I felt very nervous but excited about the new challenge.
What attracted you to SortRefer?
SortRefer was still in its infancy, and the company plans sounded exciting. It was a brand new industry for me and gave me a fresh opportunity to build the Marketing department from scratch.
How has your department grown?
The Marketing department has grown in two ways. When I first joined, I was the Marketing Manager and spent the first year and a half on my own, building a marketing plan for SortRefer. 7 years later, I’m the Group Head of Marketing, managing two Marketing Executives and three Brands at Sort Group. We’ve taken outsourced job tasks and moved them in-house, meaning we have the skills within our department to do most things, which allows much more of a seamless process.
As Head of Marketing, what is your favourite part of your role?
No two days are the same. As we work on three different brands internally, there is always something going on, whether it be a new campaign, a re-brand, a product launch or something to help internal recognition schemes.
How has SortRefer changed over the past seven years?
It’s an entirely different company now from the day I joined. I am pleased to join at such a pivotal time for the company. Departments were being set up to allow the company to expand and develop with its many plans and ideas. As mentioned before, when I joined, we just had SortRefer for the Broker Market. We have our Estate Agency brand, Sort Move and our own in-house CLC firm, Sort Legal. We have solutions across the whole property industry, with many exciting plans for the future, too.
Would you change anything about your journey here at Sort Group?
I’d change absolutely nothing – it’s been an incredible journey and has allowed me to develop personally and professionally too.
What advice would you give anyone looking to start a career in Marketing?
Do it! Marketing is forever changing, but there are many useful resources and events to help keep your knowledge relevant in the industry.
What are the top 3 things you like most about working at Sort Group?
- The sense of ‘community’ between colleagues and departments
- Their ongoing support and encouragement
- The opportunities to be part of a growth journey
Tell us something not many people know about you, even after seven years?
I had a poem published in a book when I was 7 years old, and I’ve been lucky enough to meet my favourite band; The Killers.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I’ll certainly be a lot older and with a lot more wrinkles! But in all seriousness, hopefully, we’ve been able to tick off many new launches and exciting plans at Sort Group.
Happy Anniversary, Emma, and thank you on behalf of us all here at Sort Group; your hard work and dedication will never go unnoticed. Thank you for everything you have done and continue to do; we hope to have you on the team for many more years!
