Richard Evans, who has been with the company since day one is Retiring on 1st August. Read all about his highlights and fond memories throughout his time at SortRefer.
Many of you know Richard Evans, who has been with the company since day one. Before his time at SortRefer, he worked for Burnley Building Society, N&P Building Society, Melton Mowbray Building Society and Bank of Ireland. Richard was one of the original four founding directors of SortRefer, and throughout his ten years, he’s worked in lots of different roles; from Business Development Manager, Customer Services and Telephone Account Manager.
Now that SortRefer is in its tenth year of business, he has taken the decision to retire. Although we will we all miss him dearly, we’re so happy for him and we hope he enjoys his retirement!
What were the highlights of your time at SortRefer?
· Seeing the company grow in the early days and receiving our first pay packet in the third year. That was a huge sense of achievement
· Watching the number of instructions we received go up and achieving some great big milestones.
· Moving to our new office in March 2017, this marked a huge move forward for us as a company and allowed us to continue with our expansion.
What are your fond memories?
· Me, Kev, Jim and Andy all ‘mucked in’ in the early days, we were directors, heads of departments, customer service etc all rolled into one.
· We started an ‘online portal’, without actually having a website, and for the first 6 months we sent out all quotations by email on an excel spreadsheet. The saying “fake it till you make it”, springs to mind. But, we definitely made it!
What will you miss?
· I’ll miss not being involved in the future of the company. It’s been a huge part of my working career, but I’ll be making sure I follow the progress.
· The Comradery between everyone at SortRefer. We really have a great group of people who work for the company and I’ll miss each and every one of them.
· The rapport I have with our brokers and suppliers. I’ve built so many great relationships over the years, all of which have been part of our success.
How will you be spending your retirement?
· I’ll be spending more time walking my three dogs, watching some boxsets, and playing more golf. I’m also excited as I plan to purchase a motor home so I can take off and visit some of the beautiful places we have in the UK. Just one man (and his three dogs!)
